Mesmerizing Modulation - Dazed, Dazzled, Dreaming Chapter 1
Season: Summer
---
Location: Sky Garden
(2 years since ES' establishment — mid-June, in the sky garden at ES)

Eichi: ...Oh?
Hello, Hokuto. What a coincidence to see you here.
Hokuto: I disagree. This building is the main hub for ES idol activities. It isn't that rare to run across one another here.
Eichi: Come now, don't be like that. This is exactly what we'd call a "coincidence".
ES isn't a small place. If you and I didn't have the idea to go to these gardens at the same time, we wouldn't have seen each other.
Plus, I'm usually holing myself up inside—with that in consideration, I daresay this is even an encounter of fate.
Hokuto: I wouldn't go that far. I only came here to get a breath of fresh air.
I didn't come here to make small talk with you. Don't go attributing this to fate for no reason.
Eichi: Is that so? And yet, you still humor me. How kind of you, Hokuto.
Hokuto: Don't even start. I finally got warmed up, yet you're giving me the shivers.
Eichi: I understand the feeling. I also stepped outside to warm up after being indoors where it's chilly.
This time of year can vary wildly in temperature. Let's both take care of ourselves, yes?
...Ah, are you perhaps thinking that you don't want to hear it from someone who makes you work so hard?
I do care about others, you know. I am a fan of idols myself, after all.
Besides, as the representative of StarPro, it works best for me that you're healthy. If a sudden downturn in health causes issues in scheduling, it would have a ripple effect throughout the whole agency.
Hokuto: I don't need you to tell me this, Tenshouin-senpai. Managing both my schedule and my health is part of the job.
...Hm? Is that a helicopter closing in?
Eichi: Hm. It seems there will be an arrival at the heliport. Maybe someone came back from overseas?
It could be Sena-kun or Tsukinaga-kun... Or perhaps Itsuki-kun?
Hokuto: Oh? Not even you know who's onboard?
Eichi: I don't share an agency with any of those three. It should be easy to look up who it is, though—are you curious?
Hokuto: No, just making a comment.
...I've rested enough now, so I'll head back in. See you, Tenshouin-senpai.
Eichi: Sure. Until next time, Hokuto.

(Overseas... When I was a student— No, before I went to Yumenosaki Academy, I flew out of Japan virtually every year to avoid the heat.)
(It's been a long time since I did that last. But perhaps that's an indication of how stable my condition has become, and how fulfilling my life has been lately.)
(No matter how cushy the travel plan is, moving from place to place takes time. I don't have any grand ambitions for travel, and neither do I really want to...)
(But as they say, traveling is best with companions. I bet it'd be fun to take a company trip with the members of fine sometime.)
(Maybe we could even make it a grand excursion and bring along everyone in StarPro?)
(If we go that far, I'd want it to get some sponsors involved and get it filmed. With careful planning, this could be a very impressive project.)
(...This won't do. It seems I have a subconscious habit of tying everything to work.)
(It would probably do more good to get away from work and the internet and simply detox without a care in the world. As long as I'm a representative, though, I can't have that.)
(Heh... Life is more fun when not everything goes your way ♪)
(Hm? Someone's sitting on a bench over there...)
Tsumugi: ...
Eichi: ... (Takes out smartphone)
Tsumugi: Uh... Huh?
Eichi-kun, why are you taking a photo of me? And in burst mode, too?
Eichi: I didn't want to miss a good shot. I get my picture taken often, but it's rare that I have the chance to take pictures myself.
Take a look at this photo. You look nice thanks to your new haircut, but...
With you spacing out and feeding the birds like this, you end up looking like a tired old man on a park bench. Hehe.
Tsumugi: I'm not even twenty yet, though...
Eichi: It's about the vibe, you see. Not that I really have the right to laugh, myself.
But you could learn one or two more attractive mannerisms to suit your new look.
So, Tsumugi— Would you say anything has changed since you cut your hair?
Tsumugi: Well, sure. Washing up is less of a pain now. Plus, I'm saving money since I use less shampoo.
Eichi: That isn't what I'm referring to. I mean your quality of life.
Tsumugi: Hm? I think washing one's hair counts toward quality of life.
But, hm... Well...
...I've been a little burnt out these days, I guess.
Ever since I got let go from the vice president role, it feels like there's a gaping void in my life, as if I'm having a reaction to being freed from my busy schedule. I'm having trouble figuring out what to do with myself.
Eichi: And so you've been killing time feeding the birds out here, hm?
It's a bit of a waste... Well, in a way, it's a luxury, too.
Ah, I know... How about establishing a "Tsumugi Day"?
Tsumugi: "Tsumugi Day"?
Eichi: Mm-hmm. The members of fine set up a holiday for me called "Eichi Day", during which I'm forced to rest. "Tsumugi Day" would be the Switch version of that.
If you're struggling to rest, have your friends help you. Sakasaki-kun and Harukawa-kun both seem to know very well how to while away time.
Tsumugi: Hehe, if it's an idea from Eichi-kun, I bet Natsume-kun would make all sorts of adjustments so that it looks nothing like its original form.
Either way, I don't want to get them wrapped up in my little personal problems. But I'll keep your suggestion in mind.
I think I'm just a little confused right now because I got thrown out in the elements so suddenly. I'll get used to it eventually.
Humans have a curious ability to adapt to any sort of environment, after all.
