Sudden Death - Believability Chapter 9
Season: Winter
---
Location: Cafe

Tsukasa: A-Anyway, let us regroup... Shall we ascertain the situation, my seniors?
We are now facing two problems.
One: as the members of Crazy:B have just told us—
Ritsu: The Kansai region is currently rife with conflict. The divide between ES idols and local idols has gotten wider, and now they've started to destroy each other.
Tsukasa: Yes, it's a tragic state of affairs... Though I suppose we're not ones to talk, when all we ever did at Yumenosaki was duel.
Ritsu: But no matter how much this situation bothers us, we have no way of inserting ourselves into the fray.
Tsukasa: Right... Um... well, it's a bit difficult for me to explain...
Arashi: More like you can't explain it. Thanks to our "secret order", Knights isn't allowed to participate in head-to-head battles.
Leo: Oooh right, unit leaders have to deal with secret orders on top of the regular ones.
Ritsu: Yup. And as an added bonus, we're not supposed to reveal them, and it would be really bad if someone found out on their own.
Leo: Ugh, what a pain in the ass.
Gee, good thing I'm not a leader anymore! ♪ Who needs a title that does nothin' but weigh on you, huh?
Ritsu: Either way, thanks to our secret order, the Duels we're so proud of are now unavailable to us.
We fought our way to prominence by winning Duels—head-to-head battles, basically. But this time, we're not allowed to use our go-to strategy.
That alone makes this a huge headache... It'd be a piece of cake just to take down whoever we don't like with a Duel. Violence solves everything.
Arashi: Oooh, savage. ♪
Ritsu: ...The problem is, when we consider the situation in the Kansai region, this secret order could be fatal for us.
Live battles are all the rage in Kansai right now.
They've been drawing a lot of attention—maybe because it's all over the net and local newspapers, or maybe because Kansai's full of hot-blooded fans.
Everyone's having a blast trying to predict which units will win, like it's a horse race or pro wrestling match or something.
And yeah, maybe we like to say "conflict" this, and "battle" that, but there's no actual blood getting spilled. Everybody's just innocently enjoying it as if watching a sports tournament.
People who don't like violent stuff like that can go watch other regional prelims where things are nicer.
They can even apply for a travel grant if they want.
Izumi: Well yeah, anyone who's not an idol like us is free to go wherever they want.
Ritsu: Yep, and the more fiery fans have flocked over here after hearing rumors that they can see all these flashy battles in Kansai.
Arashi: Ugh, everyone's way too intense.
...But like Tsukasa-chan said, we're really not ones to talk.
Ritsu: We Knights are famous for being fighters, and the fans are practically dying to see us jump into battle.
But even then, we're one of the Big 3 powerhouse units, and most idols, especially the ones at ES, see no chance of winning against us.
Leo: They don't wanna wake the sleeping lions, eh? But they don't know that we actually have no way to win.
Because of the secret order, the second anyone challenges us to a fight, we lose.
Tsukasa: Yes. And if we ignored the rules and participated in battle nonetheless, we could still win, of course...
But afterward, we would be penalized for violating the secret order.
Izumi: By the way, I didn't bother to remember because I don't really care, but what happens when you violate secret orders? Is it like regular orders, where you lose money?
Tsukasa: ...It differs for each recipient, but in essence the punishment is "losing something that is dear to you".
In my case, I, uh... I cannot give you any details...
It is a penalty that far outweighs any rewards we might earn from winning a live battle.
(quietly) ...But if left with no other choice, I'd...
Izumi: What's that? If you've got something to say, quit mumbling to yourself and say it loud and clear!
Leo: Hey, now... Suo~ can't say anything 'cause he'll get punished if he reveals the secret order, remember?
Tsukasa: *sigh*... In any case, this is why we cannot participate in the battles being waged across the Kansai region.
Leo: Right. Picking fights with other units is out of the question, and if someone comes and challenges us, we'd be in a real pickle.
Ritsu: Got that right. We can't battle right now—but if we refuse a challenge, we'll be forced to hand over half our current SSL$ to the challengers.
We'd basically lose by default.
