Season: Winter

Location: Sudden Death Stage

Kohaku: ...Always were a big blockhead, boy. That barely even counts as a punishment.

Nobody woulda died.

Even if we said we were gonna be strangers from today, all ya had to do was change the family registry and we could keep talkin' like we always did.

Cut us off all ya like, but some bonds just can't be broken.

Why're ya so godawful at thinkin' up workarounds like that? You should really have another think about that habit of bein' too straight-laced, sonny.

Tsukasa: But... the Suou family has done a great disrespect to the Oukawas. My grandfather and parents treated you like filth—

They scorned you and persecuted you as if you had no right to live.

Kohaku: ......

Tsukasa: So I thought, I—at least, I alone—wouldn't.

I mean... When we were young, we only played together for a very short time—but I sensed you were a human, just like me.

You were a friend to me—younger, yet cleverer than I, adorable, and very precious.

You were my friend... my family. At the very least, I alone did not wish to cut you off—or any of you off.

I did not want to squash you like pitiful insects. Is that really so strange?

Kohaku: ...No. I'm glad ya feel that way, and I think it deserves to be acknowledged.

Ya have my thanks, sonny.

Thanks for seein' me as a person... for loving me.

Tsukasa: ......

Kohaku: Besides, that choice o' yours mighta come out of some childish feelings and attachments, but oddly enough, it's the right one.

Tsukasa: ......?

Kohaku: When the Suou family turned over to your generation, the Suous started treatin' us Oukawas differently.

When Double Face was first formed, ya went an' used that as an excuse to secretly send aid to us, yeah?

Thanks to you, the Oukawas finally breathed new life after bein' on the brink of death, oppressed for so long.

In the end, we're still supporters of the famed an' powerful Suou family. With power like that, we can be a shield to ward off the foreign mafia, too.

It's all thanks to you an' Rinne-han protectin' us. Instead of gettin' massacred, we get to live on with the same power we've always had.

With that, we can fight. We can fend off the sinister barbarians invadin' our home turf.

We were always the ones doin' dirty work to protect the Suou name, but now we might even become the saviors of a nation. That's one hell of a promotion, sonny.

...My sisters are about to go out an' fight that very fight. They're repayin' your blessings with their service.

From way back when 'til now, that's been the relationship between us and you, between the Suous and the Oukawas. We've changed a whole lot, but some things'll always stay the same.

There's pride there—a soul that'll never be lost.

Tsukasa: Oukawa... We hardly deserve any repayment from you—

Kohaku: Better not finish that thought, sonny. We've been crawlin' on society's underbelly, resigned to our sordid roles, yet we always did our goddamn hardest to fulfill 'em. Don't insult us like that.

At the very least, sonny, let us believe we martyred ourselves for a lord who deserves our love an' gratitude.

If ya don't, our souls'll never know peace.

Tsukasa: Oukawa... You may be angry with me again for saying this, but...

You needn't put yourself in such a dangerous battle. You are still a child, and an idol, no less.

There are many fans out there who adore you... I do not think you should have to dirty yourself in blood and filth.

Kohaku: Yeah, my family an' my sisters all said the same thing. They taught me the Oukawa family techniques in case the worst happened, but...

They said they wanted me to stay clean, 'cause, with all this time bein' put away in another room, I don't have any blood on my hands.

An' then, after they said all that, they left me behind... and disappeared.

Leavin' me all alone, they went out to war.

They're so cruel to me. They tossed me out. I'm not even that pure, I'm jus' like my sisters—part of the family.

It's so cruel... They want me to live a good, pure life, but... I don't even know where to start.

Tsukasa: ...Then, if I may... please allow me, Tsukasa Suou, to teach you.

I, who have remained so pure because you have all taken the worst upon yourselves...

...shall protect you, who have risked your life to safeguard the family you hold so dear.

As your relative, as your family...

I swear this. Never shall I break this oath.

You believe your family has abandoned you? Nonsense. They have simply left you in the care of a friendly relative while they are away at work.

They trust me, and so they have entrusted you to me.

That is how you should think of it. I shall see it that way, too.

It may feel sad and lonely, but it is alright. I am here. From today forward, please consider me an elder brother to you—"Kohakun".

Kohaku: ...Aren't ya just tryin' to make people into what ya want 'em to be, "Suou Nii-han"?

You just wanna call me Kohakun again, doncha?

Tsukasa: I-It is nothing of the sort! I am simply trying to take initiative in treating you like a proper family member, to set an example for the rest of my family who still hold prejudices against the Oukawas—
