Gambit - Night Stalker Chapter 2
Season: Winter

Location: NewDi Lounge

Tsumugi: So recently, King Slayer has garnered some monstrous popularity overseas.
Tsukasa: M-Monstrous, you say?
Tsumugi: I don't know how else to describe it... It's kind of crazy. Pretty much every new song they come out with dominates the charts like it's a normal routine.
News keeps coming in about their successes, like one of their members got a major role in a blockbuster film, and whatever they're doing is netting them new fans in droves, and such...
Tsukasa: Well, that sounds like wonderful news to me. The members of King Slayer must be working very hard.
Tsumugi: This isn't exactly a happy matter, you know.
With King Slayer's explosive popularity, they have tons more fans now, and those fans have been staging extreme protests at our agency for days on end now—
Tsukasa: P-Protests? What for?
Tsumugi: Well, I'm not sure what the exact vibe is over there, so I can't say for certain, but...
...it kinda sounds like they think Knights are plagiarizing King Slayer?
Tsukasa: We— What?
But it's precisely the opposite! They stole from us, which is why all those issues happened in spring—
Tsumugi: Yes, this is how we understand it as well. The other party has already apologized and agreed to a settlement in which they have promised not to plagiarize our idols ever again.
However, I don't think that information has reached the fans.
Tsukasa: It isn't something that we'd want circulating around, anyway. This is a scandal for King Slayer, so I imagine they want to pretend like it never happened.
Tsumugi: No, actually, it sounds like they've been feeling a lot of remorse over it, because they've mentioned it nearly everywhere they appear.
They say things like, they used to be a copycat band of Knights, but they've decided to walk their own path now.
Tsukasa: Th-That's very honest of them.
Tsumugi: Yeah, but newer fans and such see King Slayer as the real deal, you know—their most beloved idols, who are worthy of their trust.
They're probably feeling sorry for their beloved King Slayer, who are forced to apologize every single time they perform just because their songs used to be a little similar to yours.
You know how fans can get sometimes... There are even some people petitioning us to "free King Slayer" and things like that.
Tsukasa: W-We aren't forcing them to do anything, though?!
Tsumugi: Yeah. It's like some wires got crossed somewhere, and despite it being no one's fault, people are taking things in bad faith.
Some really passionate fans got themselves worked up about it and started going on about how Knights are actually copying King Slayer, and King Slayer is actually the original, and so on and so forth.
Then they started screaming about those conspiracy theories, and a certain number of people believed them...
And now we've been getting stuff coming in nearly every day demanding the "dirty Knights liars" should "repent and apologize".
Tsukasa: Unbelievable...! What is the meaning of this? How did this even happen?
Tsumugi: Ahaha, if it was gonna come to this, maybe we really should've tried to wipe King Slayer from the industry altogether instead of trying to settle this privately.
Tsukasa: I-I truly thought that was the correct decision at the time.
From what I could tell from meeting their representative in person, neither King Slayer nor their agency's staff had any bad intentions toward us.
Tsumugi: Is that so?
Tsukasa: Yes... I was told that the members of King Slayer had personally witnessed our coronation.
Tsumugi: "Coronation"? What was that again?
Tsukasa: Around this time last year, we held a sort of performance-turned-ceremony.
That was where Leo-san, the former king, passed the crown to me, the next king. I officially inherited Knights' leader position—the position of King.
For this, we held a grand ceremony in a foreign location. Many fans gathered there to witness it.
Tsumugi: Oh, right, you guys did do something like that.
Tsukasa: Yes, and from what I understand, some locals of the area were deeply moved by this performance and formed King Slayer as a purposeful imitation of Knights.
There was no malice there—only love.
As King Slayer attracted more and more attention, their agency employed them as an official artist, unaware of their origins—
After that, their renown grew so great that they appeared on our radar, and the core issue finally came to light.
Tsumugi: So, what was at first a simple fan project eventually grew so popular that even King Slayer themselves couldn't keep a hold on it.
Their agency and local fandom got wrapped up in all of that too, and now they've gained a global reach that exceeds even that of the real Knights.
Tsukasa: It appears so... And now, those who don't know how King Slayer came about are mixing up the facts and sending abuses our way.
Tsumugi: W-Wow, the situation's sure gotten complicated, hasn't it...
Tsukasa: Truly... Wh-What do you suppose we do now?
