Izumi: Either way, our current situation is strikingly similar to the past.
All we do is increase our ranks and raise them in this lukewarm environment where the brand name alone puts food on their plates.
Knights right now reminds me so much of Chess, it almost looks like it's on purpose. I was scared it might meet the same miserable end.
I couldn't help but feel afraid... and that made me anxious.
That's a path we've been down before—and to top it off, a path that left such a deep wound that the unit never recovered.
Arashi: And that's why it puts you on your guard and makes you want to prevent it.
I get it... I'm the same. And I'm sure Ritsu-chan felt the same fears as we all walked down the path Tsukasa-chan showed us.
But, you know—sure, Knights and Chess might seem very similar if you look at certain factors.
But the times and the world have changed, and so have we who live in it. There's no way we'll just see a rehash of the exact same events from the past.
If we faithfully followed Tsukasa-chan down this path, we might've even gotten to the splendid, glittering utopia he dreams of.
Yet because I'm so weak, we ended up stagnating.
Izumi: Not just you. Me too.
Arashi: No, it's my fault this time. Hey, Izumi-chan, I—
Wait, huh? Izumi-chan? Where'd he go?
Oh, goodness gracious. He always says whatever he wants without a care, and yet he doesn't have any desire to listen to me when I have something to say.
He's so mean, Nyanko, don't you think?
Izumi: ...Why are you talking to that cat?
Arashi: Because you didn't answer me and just disappeared? Where did you have to go so bad that you just left me hanging like that?
Izumi: Nah, just... I thought Kuma-kun had showed up, so I just wanted to catch him and ask him what's on his mind. He ran away, though.
Arashi: He's been acting very mysteriously, hasn't he...
Izumi: He's probably just as nervous about the past as we are.
Tch... Knights are cleanly split into two versus two right now, so we would've secured an advantage if we managed to get him on our side.
We could've won no matter what kind of rules euthanasia ended up having.
Arashi: Oh, so you do wanna win. You've been going at this so admirably so far that I thought you would've wanted to hand over the victory to Tsukasa-chan.
Izumi: You're kidding, right? It's true that I—we weren't calm back then, but I don't think what I said at that meeting was wrong.
There's plenty of stuff we need to do before we swagger around making the newbies into our servants.
We're not important enough yet to act like we're everyone's "Onii-chans".
And yes, we do need to make "investments for our future" by training our juniors and stuff, but that's not a job for idols.
Arashi: So you want to focus on our idol activities? Funny, seeing as how you're running off doing as you please with your model business and such.
Izumi: Uh, sorry? I'm pretty sure I'm free to do whatever I want with my own life.
Arashi: Fufu, just when I thought you were genuinely reflecting on things, you still won't budge on that, huh? Everyone always just charges off in the direction they want to go—
It's never easy for mediator types like me or Ritsu-chan.
No matter how well-bred a steed you are, being like that won't get you anywhere.
Ah... Maybe that's why we have the euthanasia duel. It's a way to spur the unruly horses into the same direction.
Way back when, we'd end up losing something important every time the whip had to come down on us.
People would desert us and leave the fold, saying they just couldn't keep up.
We're just the weird ones who decided to stay behind. So before our numbers decrease even further—
Before we're left all alone, we need to get back squarely on our feet. Even if we're a little unsteady right now, we can hold our ground if we have support by our side.
No—that's what this unit was made for. We're just five people who would've fallen on our own, but we gathered together to make the powerful, undefeatable Knights.
