[2-A Classroom]

(About two weeks before)

Subaru: It’s almost Halloween! I’m so excited~ I love Halloween!☆

Trick or Treat!

If you don’t give me a treat, I’ll turn you all sparkly!☆

Makoto: Huh, what’s that supposed to mean? Akehoshi-kun, doesn’t the Halloween thing go like, “If you don’t give me a treat, I’ll play a trick on you”?

Hokuto: Hm. Well then… I’ll take you up on that “sparkly” thing.

Makoto: Hidaka-kun, you’ve been playing along a lot recently, huh?!

Hokuto: Fufu. When you say “sparkly”, you must mean the stars, right? If you translate it directly, then what Akehoshi said was basically “Trick or Star”.

In fact, I thought it was a rather fitting phrase for Trickstar.

Makoto: Ah, huh? Um, you’re right…?

Subaru: Okay, scores are in~!

For Hokke~, who got what I wanted to say right away and replied appropriately: 80 points! For Ukki~, who didn’t say anything fun at all: 20 points!

Disqualified for zero marks! You’ve failed! Return to your country and start all over from zero! [1]

Makoto: I-Isn’t that a little too harsh?! Hang on, give me another chance! I can do better…!

Hokuto: Fufu. Just now, Akehoshi was making a pun with “zero marks” and “start over from zero”, right?

Makoto: Ah, so that’s what he meant! I thought he was just saying something unusually mean!

Damn it~ I’ve been falling behind Hidaka-kun lately! I’m supposed to be the “boke” in Trickstar…! [2]

Subaru: Ahaha☆ That’s how you’ve seen yourself, Ukki~? That’s funny♪

Makoto: Uh, I wasn’t trying to be a boke just now, though?!

Subaru: Anyway, hey hey, Bokke~ This is unrelated, but--

Hokuto: Who are you calling “Bokke~”?

Makoto: Wait, hold it! Don’t move on so fast! Let’s explore this a little further - this concerns my identity, you know…!

Hokuto: Now, now… Akehoshi messes with you all the time, right? It’s time you got used to it.

Even if you’re not quite a boke, I think there’s a certain flair you have that I can’t imitate.

Makoto: Ah, you think so? Ehehe♪ Yeah, you gotta have someone on the receiving end of the joke! That’s where I stand right now…!

Hokuto: Mhmm. Jokes aside, we should start really thinking about our position as idols too.

We’ve been campaigning all over the country to prepare for SS, and not too long ago we clashed with Adam, one of the leading national champions…

We’re gaining experience and making steady progress, but our actual school activities haven’t been particularly noteworthy.

Makoto: Ah, now that you mention it, you’re right. We’ve been taking part in DreamFes at school sometimes, but it’s been pretty hit or miss.

Subaru: Ahaha! Hit or miss! Kuroboshi, shiroboshi! I’m Akehoshi...☆ [3]

Hokuto: We’ve moved on from jokes for now, so keep it down, Akehoshi. ...But I did think that was pretty good♪

Subaru: I thought so too♪

Makoto: Guh, it feels like the two of you aren’t missing a beat! I’m the one who’s supposed to be in the “Idiot Pair” with Akehoshi, but it feels like my position is being threatened…!

Hokuto: We’re in danger of getting off-topic, so let’s get back on track. I want to talk about work, so Anzu, it’d be great if you were part of this instead of just looking on in amusement.

Subaru: Yup yup! Ever since Tanabata Festival, you’ve really made a name for yourself as a talented producer.

As we’re not really standing out at school these days, we’d love it if you could show us the way back to the top.

Hokuto: Yeah. We’re really counting on you, Anzu. To us, you’ve always been our Goddess of Victory.

Makoto: (Is this a joke too? Or wait, is Hidaka-kun being serious?)

(This is hard… hang on, this isn’t the the time to be thinking about jokes!)

(In reality, Trickstar’s been gaining experience and fame by going up against national champions, but…)

(Because of that, we haven’t taken part much in school affairs, so we’ve been kinda out of the loop.)

(We need to boost our presence a little, huh. We’re the Yumenosaki representatives in SS, after all.)

(Once we’ve become a unit that can really be proud of its position, I want to go at SS with our heads held high. )

(After all, it’s frustrating to think that other students might be wondering why guys like us are their reps.)

(Alright. As a member of Trickstar, I’ll do my very best.)

[1] The original pun was focusing on 赤点 (akaten; "red marks") and 赤ん坊からやり直せ (akanbou kara yarinaose; "do over from a baby") but I give my editor Jay full credit for coming up with such a fitting English equivalent!!
[2] In a manzai pair (a style of Japanese comedy), there are two roles, the tsukkomi and boke. The boke's role is to basically do/say things that seem foolish/stupid and the tsukkomi punishes or scolds them for it.
[3] 黒星 (kuroboshi; "black star") and 白星 (shiroboshi; "white star") are both terms originating in sumo wrestling, where a black means a loss and a white star means a victory. Makoto says these two in the line before this, and Subaru picks up on those words and makes a star pun with his own name.
