Requiem - Lux aeterna Chapter 11

shivalriesT/N: On-mic vs. off-mic dialogue is a very important narrative tool in Requiem, and it begins to appear in this chapter! I'll be marking every instance of on-mic dialogues in quotes "like this", while off-mic dialogue will be without quotes!

Arashi: (…It feels like someone’s watching me. Goodness, maybe it’s a side effect of this kind of work or something.)
(He really got me riled me up… I know I’ve already gone and done it now, but I still feel a bit sorry making only myself stand out.)
(But you know, Ousama—this is who I am. This is my own filthy desire, the one thing I wanted to hide from everyone…)
(I just want to be seen, you know? I just want to be told I’m the prettiest in the whole world.)
(Right now, the only one I can hear that from is myself, but…)
(I keep hoping that, maybe...there’s someone out there, someone like that person who lost sight of their dreams and disappeared. Maybe if I searched every corner of the world, I’ll find them someday…)
(With that hope in my heart, I’ll dance with grace and beauty on this day.)
“Hey there, everyone! Once again, thank you all so much for coming to see Knights today!”
“Now, tell me, my princesses: who’s the fairest of them all…?!”
“Yes, thank you! That’s right, it’s me~!”
“But you know, each and every one of you is just as lovely and adorable as I am! And I mean every word! How I’d love to just hug you all so tight and give you a little kiss!”
“But I’m a little too far away from you all up here, so you’ll have to make do with this…. Smooch! ♪”
“Fufu, I’ll be wishing for your happiness! Well, I’m sure you’re already happy enough seeing our smiles!”
“Oh, what’s that? Hm…hm…? Ah, I can’t answer that question just yet!”
“I would love to grant any and every wish of our princesses, no matter when or where! But I’m no psychic, you know? I don’t know what’ll happen in the future.”
“But! At least I can say this: keep believing in us, and wait for us! I’m trying my very hardest to turn the future you want into reality, after all!”
“I swear on it! I’ll never, ever make you cry!”
Izumi: Excuse me…? Naru-kuuuun, you can’t just stand there chatting with the audience. We’re not even in the talk portion yet. You’re ruining our image of austerity.
Arashi: Huh, were we ever like that in the first place…? You sure have a weird way of seeing reality sometimes, Izumi-chan.
Izumi: People keep saying that to me so much lately, I’m starting to believe it myself. …But what’s wrong with a little daydreaming?
Arashi: Nothing at all! I think that’s a source of strength for you, anyway. The strongest version of ourselves is always the one in our ideals, after all. ♪
But if you don’t look at reality, you’ll trip over yourself, y’know?

Izumi: What? Ahh, is that what you were talking about with the audience just now?
Arashi: Yep. They also wanted to know if you and Ousama are gonna leave Knights, since you’re both graduating…
Seems like some other units are getting the fans all in a tizzy with talks and rumors.
Izumi: Huh… I guess everybody’s having a hard time…well, I can’t just stand here and smile about it this time around.
…I wonder if Leo-kun really intends to quit.
Arashi: …Are you serious?! I can’t believe you!
Izumi: But I mean, he’s gone through so much sadness that I wouldn’t be surprised if he just got sick of it all…
Isn’t forcing him back onstage just too cruel and arrogant?
Arashi: Oh my, how kind you are to our Ousama! I’m so jealous~ But isn’t it just that you’re tiptoeing around him so, so carefully that you can’t even see things for what they are?

Anyway, that smile is clear as day to me, so I’m not really worried…
Of course, since Requiem’s only just started, we can’t get too comfy, either.
This must be just like when you become a parent for the first time and finally understand how your own parents felt…
After being King, even temporarily, I feel like I’ve finally come to understand that guy.
Izumi: …?
Arashi: Doesn’t look like you’re getting it. No problem, I’ll just show you with actions, then!
(Stupid Izumi-chan. No one alive would actively try to throw away the place where they can live in happiness, right?)
(If someone like that existed, I wouldn’t wanna spend a single second with them!)
